With huge thanks to our partners at the Football Foundation, Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council and Shenley Parish Council, learn how the club engaged the experts at Pearls, who laid vital, additional land drainage at Pursley in the club's fight against wetter winters and the cancellation of our juniors' football matches. Click on the first picture and off you go!
With winter getting wetter every season, parts of Pursley without under-pitch drainage were persistently water-logged with our juniors having to sail to their games in a fleet of yachts. Ahoy there me hearties!
Matches were constantly cancelled and our juniors couldn't play, so it was time to call in the experts. With significant funding and support from the Football Foundation, Elstree & Borehamwood Town Council and Shenley Parish Council, as well as club funding, land drainage experts Pearls were secured!
Using this marvellous equipment, Pearls simultaneously excavated soil and laid new underground drainage pipes in flood hit areas, carefully avoiding any earth worms kipping in the vicinity.
While gazing down to see if they could make out Australia, they then connected the new drainage pipes to our existing under pitch drainage.
With more stone than you can shake a stick at, Pearls covered the new drainage pipes to aid percolation..
..with another incredible contraption using a conveyor belt straight out of Gatwick Airport Luggage Reclaim, they whizzed professionally through the job.
In case you thought it was the moles, confirmation that the flood plains are now covered with under pitch drainage, ready to speed excess rain away from our juniors' playing areas.
Next came the Root-Zone delivery, a super blend of coarse gritty sand, loam topsoil and grass seed. So nutritious is this stuff, just a sprinkling of it on a bald head and you'll have thick hair within a day or two...probably.
...conveyered into place and then compacted nice and firm with caterpillar tracks and some 'plates of meat'.
Job done and now we play the long game, topping up the Root-Zone mix as the ground settles over time.
We await the winter rains with renewed hope as our defences have been considerably and expertly bolstered. Huge thanks to Richard, Mark, Russell and Niel (pictured) from Pearls, The Football Foundation, Elstree & Borehamwood Town Council and Shenley Parish Council for their tremendous support of our local children and the game they love.
